Aszály — Rounded Ceramic Vase with Crackled Texture

Aszály is a handmade vase with a low, rounded silhouette that swells into a full belly and closes with a clearly defined, smooth neck. Soft, irregular ridges wrap around the body — traces of coil building left deliberately unsmoothed and kept as part of the drawing of the form. They give the vessel a natural, slightly uneven rhythm and make it look different from every angle.

The surface is covered in a dense web of fine cracks, through which a warmer, sandy clay tone shows through — a texture that recalls dried earth or bark. This effect emerges in the firing and is never entirely predictable, so the pattern of crazing differs on every single piece. The vase is handcrafted in a small studio, which means variations in tone, in the run of the ridges and in the intensity of the texture belong to the nature of handmade work. Its warm, earthen palette sits beautifully with wood, linen and lime-washed walls — it stands well alone, and takes dried grasses just as happily.
