Gyűrődés — Ceramic Vase with Layered Texture

Gyűrődés is a handmade vase with a tall, columnar silhouette whose walls collapse and fold as though the material had been crushed halfway through rising and set in that position. The upper section stays relatively calm, while the middle and lower body break into deep hollows and swells, and the irregular outline of the base means the form reads differently from every side.

The entire surface is covered in a dense rhythm of horizontal ridges that follow each fracture of the form faithfully — running parallel in places, then sliding diagonally into the depth of a fold. That contrast between regular rhythm and chaotic crumpling is exactly the point of the piece. The vase is handcrafted in a small studio, so the arrangement of the folds, the depth of the creases and the shade of white vary from one example to the next. The matte cream-white finish means the work reads first as sculpture — it looks best standing alone, lit from the side so the shadows in the relief come forward.
