Kagyló — Organic Ceramic Bowl

Kagyló is a handmade bowl with a compact, rounded body that doesn't stand upright but rests on its side, as though it had simply been set down where it lies. The opening is narrow and angled, framed by a softly curving, undulating rim, so the interior stays in half-shadow and reveals itself only from certain angles. The form recalls a shell washed up by the sea, or a stone worn smooth by water.

The outer wall is covered in a thick cream-white glaze that runs in places and gathers into raised droplets, while elsewhere it pulls back to expose the warm, sandy clay beneath — the contrast of white against ochre is what draws the whole surface. The interior stays smoother and deeper in tone. The way the glaze flows emerges in the firing and is never fully predictable, so every piece differs in the path of the glaze and the line of its rim. The object reads first as sculpture and looks best standing alone.
