Héj — Ceramic Bowl with Torn Rim

Héj is a handmade bowl with a deep, hemispherical form crowned by an uneven, torn rim that dips and rises unpredictably around its whole circumference. The piece looks like a fragment of something larger — a cracked eggshell, or a shard of a vessel lifted from the ground. That unfinished, archaeological quality is exactly where its strength lies.

The outer wall is covered in a dense web of cracks in pronounced relief, recalling dried earth or tree bark; the interior, by contrast, stays smooth and warm, catching a soft golden glow when light rakes across it. The warm sand-and-ochre tone sits beautifully alongside raw wood, linen and lime-washed walls. Each bowl is handcrafted in a small studio, which means the line of the rim, the pattern of the crazing and the shade of the clay are unique to it. The object reads first as sculpture, though it will happily hold fruit, dried flowers or small everyday things.
