Jég — Sculptural Glass Vase

Jég is a handmade glass vase in which a smooth, near-cylindrical upper body gives way to a spreading, folded base. The lower section looks as though the material began to run and set halfway through the movement — thick coils, bubbles and deep creases form there, catching the light in a completely different way from the clear, quiet wall above. The effect is close to a block of melting ice caught in a single second.

Its transparency means the object changes constantly with its surroundings: it throws reflections across the surface it stands on, bends the light and looks different in the morning than it does at dusk. Each vase is handcrafted, so every piece carries its own arrangement of folds, tiny air bubbles and subtle variations in the thickness of the glass — the mark of handmade work rather than a flaw. It shows best somewhere with natural light, standing alone or holding a single stem that won't obscure the structure of the base.
