Örvény — Sculptural Vase with Spiral Ribbing

Örvény is a handmade vase whose entire surface is covered in dense, diagonal ribbing that spirals from the base to the narrow rim. The body is deliberately asymmetrical — swelling into a soft, organic belly at the bottom, then drawing in and straightening as it rises, as though the form had been caught mid-turn. That movement is the heart of the piece: depending on the light, the ribs read either as gentle waves or as a sharp graphic rhythm.

Each vase is handcrafted in a small studio, so every piece differs slightly in the scale of the ribbing, in tone and in the path of the twist — a natural mark of handmade work rather than a deviation. The muted sand-cream colour and matte finish mean the object reads first as sculpture and only second as a vessel. It looks best on its own, on a console or in a quiet corner where it has room to breathe, though it will happily hold a single branch or a bundle of dried grasses.
